West Rowan Volunteer Fire Department serves and protects the western most portion of Rowan County, North Carolina. Our district covers approximately 49 square miles of rural homes and farmland. With approximately 3,900 citizens living within our district. This is about to change with 4 housing developments being built in our district, 3 of which are gated communities.

This department is the result of a merger of Centenary VFD and Mount Ulla - Bear Poplar VFD. The merger process began in 1999 and the Articles of Merger were filed with the State in 2001, which officially changed our name to West Rowan Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.

We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2003. Mt Ulla - Bear Popular Vol Fire Dept began its operations in 1953. Centenary Vol Fire Dept started in 1956.
